Your parents made it look so easy. You felt like you had a fairly easy upbringing. The world somehow felt easier back then. It seemed a lot more peaceful and carefree. But maybe that’s because you were just a kid. Maybe your parents hid some of those hard times from you to keep you safe, protected, and happy.

Either way, today’s world feels like it’s filled with a lot more heartache, pain, and hard times. While you can’t speak for your parents and what they went through or what you put them through, you can only hope it wasn’t as bad for them as what you’re dealing with right now.
This is why parenting seems harder today than it used to be.
Increased Cost of Raising a Child
One of the main reasons parenting today seems a lot harder than parenting in the past is because the cost of living has increased yearly. This means that a majority of parents, single parents, and couples have to hold their own careers. In the past, there may have been a lot more families that had a primary caregiver, such as a stay-at-home mom or stay-at-home dad. In today’s world, parents don’t have much maternity or paternity leave, if any. That means they still have to hold a full-time job while also being a full-time parent.
Childcare Costs
While the parents are working, a child needs someone to care for them. This means the parents have to have a budget set aside for childcare and their child’s education when they’re ready to start attending school. Childcare and education have also increased over the years, making it even more difficult for families to budget and afford the care needed for their children, even if they have a full-time job.
School Shootings
Another unfortunate area that has also increased over the years is school shootings. Over the past few years, school shootings have become a larger statistic. This is just another area that parents now have to worry about when they leave their child in someone else’s care.
The Digital Age
Today’s world is very much digital. Everyone, even children, now has access to a lot more information at the touch of their fingertips. They’re able to watch different shows, listen to music, interact with their classmates and friends, or play games across various devices. While a lot of parents let their children use computers, tablets, and cell phones, there are positives and negatives to all of these devices. While they can be a useful learning tool, they can also cause a lot of issues for a child mentally and physically.
Mental and Physical Issues
In today’s world, parents also have to deal with increasing mental and physical issues. Obesity, asthma, plus other diseases and mental health issues have been on the rise in the last few years. More cases are being reported every day. These mental and physical issues add another layer or item on their to-do list to make sure their child is healthy, happy, and safe.
