Reviews by My Readers

As a teen transition researcher and teen transition coach who has worked over 25 years with young people both as they enter high school and as they enter college, and the mother of a teenager myself, I am always on the lookout for books that appeal to young people but don’t “talk down” to them. This little gem is one of those that does a great job of being helpful without being preachy or cringy.

TRULY A MUST READ!!! Book provides excellent real world examples on how best to communicate with teenagers and understand their emotions and doubts. Quick read but leaves a lasting impression.

“The Teenager’s Guide To Adulting Skills and Life Hacks” is a dynamic handbook for teens navigating the complexities of adolescence. Far from a typical “self-help” guide, it’s a secret sauce for thriving amidst the chaos.

This guide stands out by addressing real issues faced by today’s teens. It empowers them to manage emotions, refine communication, and make responsible decisions. Safety is prioritized, covering real-world and social media scenarios.

This is a must read for all teens and everyone with kids. It can be used as an outline to start one’s kids on a path to being a responsible adult and for having conversations about topics that can be difficult to broach with your tweens and teens. Most of these skills and life hacks would also be helpful for adults! Teaching kids time management, kindness and that they always have choices will help them for their entire lives. Start early. Create good habits now for your children with this book.

Okay, I am really excited about this book! It is hard to find a “self-help” book for teenagers and young adults that they don’t immediately dismiss, this one is different! The language is accessible for teens, yet the content is rich enough to engage young adults and parents…

I found Karen’s book to be an amazing synthesis of experience and practical wisdom, what could only be to a young person, a source of profound assistance while navigating some of the best, but most challenging times of our lives, growing up. As I read each chapter, I could not help flashing back to my own experience growing into adulthood.

The writer’s style is one that will appeal to teens and tweens. The real-life scenarios are relatable for teens and is a great feature. I also liked the numbered lists-short, to the point and offering good information in an easy to understand format. Topics such as critical thinking skills are demystified by simple explanations applied in case scenarios. In summary, the topics, writing style, and accessibility make this a great book for kids and teens.

I found this book to be extremely helpful. I have a daughter who just finished her first semester of college and is about to begin her second semester. There was so much in this book that helped me, as her father, understand her challenges at her age and how I might be able to guide her. Specifically, recognizing and avoiding toxic relationships;, dealing with peer pressure, anxiety, and anger issues; and time management/money matters.

What I would give to have had this book as a teenager, myself. The author does a phenomenal job of making the topic of growing up very approachable to young readers. It’s very understanding and level headed. I would recommend this to any young person who is feeling a little bit overwhelmed by the changes in their life and what the future has in store for them.

This book was well written and the content was on point. I really liked the tone the author used and how they wrote directly to the teen. I learned a lot from the book as a grandparent and will recommend to my kids and grandkids.

This book is appropriately written in ways that make complex topics understandable and relatable to all teenagers. These are topics that many adults struggle with! What particularity resonated was the chapter on understanding emotions and communication skills. Karen provides questions to uncover the reasons behind various emotions and case studies for further illustration.
